The issue of work & life balance has acquired a growing importance in the European agenda, as one of the main components of the policies of work and, obviously, of family’s policies. Despite of this, particularly in Italy, the manner in which this issue is conceptualized and “practiced” continues to be characterized by strong criticisms and ambiguities, with the consequence of producing and reproducing old and new social inequalities. The volume suggests to rethink the gendered nature of work & life balance, and to conceptualize it as a “societal issue”, a real challenge for the development, the wellbeing and the social cohesion.
