abstract = "Bolzano does not devote much space to the specific elaboration or critique of the concept of {"}category{"}. The aim of the paper is to clarify the meaning of Bolzano's criticism to Aristotle and Kant on this point, thereby delineating some peculiar concepts of Bolzano (i.e. {"}representations in themselves{"} or {"}ideas{"}). Based on these concepts, the notion of {"}summum genus{"} is originally rethought and any {"}deduction{"} is radically rejected.",
