Abstract
Michele Medici was a renowned 19th century physiologist and anatomist, chief physician at the Ospedale Maggiore and Professor of Physiology at the University of Bologna. During his long period of scientific activity, he also wrote on entomological and botanical topics. Without doubt he is nowadays remembered principally for his role in medical science, while his importance for entomology and botany is of less relevance and his scientific works in these fields of secondary interest remain relatively misunderstood. Therefore in the literature of natural-science history there is no, or only very little, information on his life, and a complete list of these marginal writings is not to be found in the same. The present work aims to provide some biographical notes on Medici and integrations regarding his works of entomological and botanical interest. Moreover, a fine contemporary engraving portraying Medici in academic dress is reproduced.
