Abstract
The essay deals with family mediation in relation to shared custody, also in light of recent proposals for a legislative discipline. It therefore takes into consideration the importance of the principle of best interests of the child and the principle of dual-parenting in mediation as a procedure irreducible to the mere autonomy of the parties, but if possible described as a form of assisted autonomy. Examines, among other things, the questions of mediator neutrality, the obligatory nature or otherwise of mediation, the effectiveness of the agreements resulting from mediation, and finally the figure of the parenting coordinator
