Abstract
A reconstruction of the human and intellectual profile of Manara Valgimigli, an Italian scholar and philologist born July 9, 1876, and died August 28, 1965, who spanned the 20th century. . From a cultural and scientific point of view, he affirmed the very high value of “poetry” with philological research on the texts of ancient, medieval and contemporary poets, devoting himself to an important educational commitment to the transmission of knowledge through teaching, the preservation of the book tradition and journalistic dissemination. M.V.'s philological interest in Greek and Latin classics originated from his youthful acquaintance with great poets (Giovanni Pscoli and Giosuè Carducci), who formed his paideia at an early age. After teaching in high schools, as a university lecturer in 1922 he won his first university chair in Messina, for Greek Literature, from 1924 to is at the University of Pisa and in 1926 he moved to the University of Padua where he remained in office until the age of seventy, that is, until 1948.
