Abstract

This contribution brings together a plural discussion on the recent Luigiaurelio Pomante’s work, L’Università della Repubblica (1946-1980). Quarant’anni di Storia dell’istruzione superiore in Italia. In this paper, the quality of the work was highlighted, especially its methodological rigour and the author’s ability to analyze unpublished and printed sources. The text traces the history of the Italian university in the Republican age, covering a significant chronological arc in the evolution of Italian higher education, bringing out strengths and above all critical issues.
