Abstract
The musician Lucio Campiani (Mantua, 1822-1914), who studied under Rossini in Bologna, was the leading figure on the Mantuan musical scene (in the opera theatre, in churches, in music schools, in civil ceremonies). This essay analyzes his contributions to the religious life of the town, through his sacred music compositions, his activity as the organist of the Cathedral, his roles as a member of a commission tasked with hiring new organists and as a consultant in the restoration of ancient organs
