abstract = "This article is concerned with the first stasimon of Euripides' Hippolytos, which takes the form of a hymn to Eros. Among the aspects dealt with are: a) the structure of the choral ode (also in relation with the aretalogical hymns in S. Ant. 781-800 e Tr. 497-530); b) its dramatic function within the play, and connections with the hymn to Artemis in the prologue (vv. 61-72) and the hymn to Aphrodites and Eros in the last choral song (vv. 1268-81); c) erotic topoi borrowed from lyric poetry, often modified to fit the tragic context; d) analysis of the mythological examples of Iole and Semele in the second strophic pair.",
