Abstract
RIVA F 2012, L’esistenza degli altri. Democrazia e partecipazione, in AA.VV., Democrazie a confronto, Edizioni Rezzara, Vicenza, pp. 61-106.
All men’s equality is the fundamental “dogma” of democratic faith; but it doesn’t mean uniformity (M. Zambrano). Both in the comparison between the coexistence alternative models, and under the point of view of moral principles, democratic community have always set itself the problem of its own “faith”. It can’t be found in coexistences of traditionalistic, absolutist, totalitarian type. The question seems to be blocked today. On one side, those who claim the return to some absolute, on the other side those who insist on democracy relativism. Participation helps go out of the dead end. It forces to realise a trust in the others’ existence which is often disregarded. Participating does not come after. It is at the origin of the person. The dialogue with literature follows the main articulations (and the relative paragraphs): PARTICIPATING; THE EQUIVALENCE, THE MODERNITY; BELIEVING IN THE OTHERS’ EXISTENCE; SEPARATIONS, TECHNICISMS, NUMBERS; NEITHER COLLECTIVISM NOR INDIVIDUALISM; DESPOTISM AND DEMOCRACY.
