Abstract
The professional work of educators and caregivers is based on meaningful interpersonal relationships deeply rooted in the experience of the body. Every encounter with another person, in fact, is originally determined by a way of looking, listening, touching, and so on. From this way of exercising the senses derive thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Although an ancient suspect banished sensitive experience as an inferior level of knowledge, education and care require the capacity of practicing appropriate glances and gestures, according to the other's personality and his existential situation. Through a phenomenological analysis, enhanced by narrative texts and movie suggestions, this book reveals the meaning of the senses and their affective implications, demonstrating how important sensitivity can be as an essential professional resource.
