Abstract
This essay goes through the human and intellectual life of Lea Sestieri (1913-2018), the first Italian woman who attended the Rabbinical College. She was a secular intellectual, an expert of biblical texts, a strong Zionist. According to Sestieri, Judaism could disregard the relationship with transcendence, but not individual responsibility and practical action. She was professor in Uruguay, Israel and Italy; she taught Greek language and literature, Italian literature, Post biblical Judaism. In the second part of her life she devoted herself to Jewish-Christian dialogue, taught at various pontifical theological faculties, lectured and wrote numerous essays and books.
