Abstract
Through a reasoned and articulated survey of images of the bread, of the production techniques and of the \r\nbakery products for the Middle Ages, the essay explains the religious, symbolic, allegorical and social meaning of bakery. \r\nWhat emerges is a very interesting framework on the meaning of the bread's representation, even in its most generic sense of food, of the laid table, of the sideboard and of tableware services as an interpretative key of the complexity of the secular and religious liturgy of the medieval "societas christiana"
