Le differenze sociali

Within the handbook edited by the same Author (see: “Sociologia delle differenze e delle disuguaglianze”), this chapter, after a definition of the concept of social differences, concentrates the attention on the process of social and institutional construction of differences, with a particular focus on differences based on gender, age, ethnicity and sexual orientation. Then it develops some considerations about the consequences of the process of differentiation, with a specific attention to the relationship between social differences and social inequalities. Finally, it takes into consideration the question of the government of a society as a system of differences.
