Abstract
This is an annotated translation of an important essay on Montale’s poetry by Lawrence Venuti (1953-; celebrated American translator from Italian, French and Catalan and translation theorist and historian) that was originally published as "Montale's shadow," Tal 6 (Spring 1991), 13-20.
