Abstract
This essay illustrates the figure of Gershom ben Moseh Soncino, the greatest Jewish printer of all time, which shines through his biography. The Brescia period (1491-97) of its typographical activity stands between the beginnings in Soncino (1488-90) and the failed attempt to settle in Venice (1498-1502). In Brescia (1491-95) he published eight editions of biblical and secular texts, including the famous entire edition of the Hebrew Bible and the "Fable of the ancients" (Meshal ha-qadmoni); in Barco of Orzinuovi (1496-97) he printed three works, among which the Selichot.
