T.Pomponius Atticus declared himself for Caesar in 49 B.C. and remained in the Caesarian party also after the Ides of March; his intellectual activity is related to Caesar's propaganda; Nepos classifies him as an 'optimas' only because this word marks the new model of Roman citizen with his new moral values under the Principate
