Abstract
The essay traces the histographical and pedagogical reasons and the contexts in which the Archivio per la storia dell’educazione in Italia was founded in 1993 at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Brescia.
Over the years, the Archivio per la storia dell’educazione in Italia has made available a considerable number of archival documents about the 19th and 20th centuries and it has become an important scientific Centre for documentation and research on the history of the school system, in analogy with similar Italian and European experiences. Its main aims are the collection of documentation and the promotion of research and publications about the history of education in Italy.
