Abstract
The theme of the absence of voice, connected to the lack of power, and the inability of society to fully listen to the experiences of people in poverty, often recurs in cur- rent reflections on this phenomenon. Furthermore, the literature underlines how the act of ignoring the voices of people in poverty is found not only in the context of so- cial policies, but also in the context of research, when people in poverty are treated as objects of research and not as subjects with their own opinion on the issues ad- dressed. However, several authors underline how research should acknowledge, docu- ment, and legitimate the voices and knowledge of people in poverty and make it vis- ible to society. This contribution is part of a study on the professional practices of so- cial workers who worked in Citizenship Income services in their last year of applica- tion in Italy (2023) and aims to present the point of view of people in poverty about the helping relationship with professionals, in order to highlight some reflections about social workers’ practice
