Abstract
In this paper some speeches given by the Russian President Vladimir Putin are analysed with the aim of illustrating some examples of violation of presuppositions, a manipulative linguistic device consisting in the introduction of false presuppositions into discourse. Although fundamental in communicative interaction, presuppositions can be used for manipulative purposes when they assume as part of the common ground something that is not. In particular, the focus of the analysis is on discourses referring to the ideology of the Russkij mir (Russian World).
