Abstract

The article presents and discusses some issues concerning continuous vocational training (CVT) evaluation. After a brief introduction defining both terms (evaluation and CVT), the main features characterizing CVT evaluation in Italy are described as well as main changes which are occurring. Then, the most relevant evaluation approaches and models are presented with a focus on those who are guiding practices and experiences in Italian context; together with them, also the sources which are strongly influencing evaluation designs and methods choices are briefly described. More specifically, these sources correspond to the following approaches and/or models: those coming from private companies financed training evaluation tradition; those implemented by local, national and supranational (EU-EC) institutions with reference to public training policies; those coming from the learning outcomes and skills/competences assessment tradition, originally developed in educational context but then adapted to adult beneficiaries and training interventions; finally, those belonging to the services evaluation practices and specifically to customer satisfaction logic. The article ends with the proposal of some training and evaluative variables useful for defining, in each situation, the most appropriate evaluation design.
