Abstract
The concept of “humankind,” intended in its theological, philosophical and juridical interpretations, belongs to strictly European tradition of thought. By adopting a postcolonial perspective, it is possible to question its epistemological validity and perform a critical review of its development. The essay illustrates É. Glissant’s and E.W. Said’s insights on the topic. In particular, it adopts the notion of “worldliness” formulated by Said.
