Following a qualitative research carried out with a group of foster families, the paper explores the educational project that the foster family works out with and for the child. This is a planning that has unique aspects, because it combines the size of the temporary nature with the size of the duration, the provisionality with the irreversibility. The strength of the family project connects in a novel way past-present-future time of the child and of the foster family. Foster parents don’t hide the difficulties and conflicts, but reveal the ability to stay inside difficulties, identifying new tasks of growth. The foster family also attributes to the child a significant place within a larger project that understands him and that can save his history from fragmentation.
