Abstract
In Ben Sira’s "laus patrum" the mention of Josiah (49:1-3) is a short hagiographic hymn. Only the Hebrew text of Cairo Geniza MSS lets understand the real difficulties in putting into practice his reform; instead the LXX and the Vulgate describe Josiah as a pious re-organizer of orthodoxy. Also Syriac and Arabic Versions emphasize the positive valuation of his action, doing of this a work wanted and directed by YHWH. So, an ideological re-reading revised Josiah’s work, that appears only through the Hebrew of Geniza MSS.
