The contribution focuses on research as an essential profile of the teacher’s figure and as a resource for improving the quality of professional practice of teachers as well as for promoting critical Learning by students in the overall framework of the theory and practice of school. The main idea is that research must inform the whole teaching and learning process “from within” and not “next”. In this perspective, research is not only an activity (to do), but also a dimension of the teacher’s professional identity (to be). In order to make the research of the teacher possible and sustainable, it is necessary not only to act on the teacher’s training course and its professional activity, but also on the organizational conditions of the school practice.
