Abstract
This essay primarily focuses on a leading figure of social Catholicism in Brescia, Vittorio Chizzolini. Through his work, particularly at the publishing house Editrice La Scuola, he devoted great energy and passion to establishing a branch of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Brescia, which opened in 1965 as the city’s first university. This dissertation clarifies the motivations behind this endeavor and explores the initial connections between the catholic community in Brescia and the Università Cattolica of Milan. It specifically highlights Vittorio Chizzolini’s contributions through his numerous interactions, which formed a true intellectual network, first with Agostino Gemelli and later with successive rectors, from Francesco Vito to Ezio Franceschini, as well as key figures like Giancarlo Brasca – all of whom were united by their membership in the Missionari della Regalità di Cristo, a secular institute founded by Gemelli himself.
