Abstract
Using spatial regression models, the article investigates how the characteristics of the resident
population and local firms influence the birth of new migrant businesses in Milan. The
results indicate how the birth processes concentrated in certain areas of the city are correlated
with both the residential concentration of different ethnic groups and, within a path dependence framework, with the demographic dynamics of co-ethnic businesses.
