Abstract
The historical period which opened, in 1904, with the launch of the XXII legislature saw the entrance of the first small group of "Catholic-Members" to the Chamber of Deputies, a tangible indication of a new era of political balances. By presenting an overview of the opposition and exchange between Catholic and secular culture, that affected the field of education as well as of publishing for children and youth (with regard to educational texts, reading books, children'smagazines etc.), the essay highlights the complexity of relationships and interactions that developed between the second half of the nineteenth century and the Great War.
