La Global history nella Repubblica popolare cinese

The article aims to trace the route of World History/Global History in the People's Republic of China, identifying three phases, from its introduction in the 1980s until today. Particular attention is paid both to the main university research centres that have animated this historiographical debate and to the intertwining of the latter with certain constraints imposed by the political context. The article also presents some voices of Chinese historians, little known in Italy, whose works, written and published in the PRC, help to understand how Global History has renewed Chinese historiography: they address topics of a different nature, which have been already debated before but are usually dealt with within interpretative frameworks that are either national in character or marked by various forms of sinocentrism. The themes specifically examined are: the economic development of Jiangnan; the transition from the Ming to the Qing dynasty; economic and cultural exchanges on the Silk Roads.
