Abstract
This contribution traces the ways in which critical hygienic-sanitary situations have been dealt with in the People’s Republic of China and the political-ideological value attributed to their management. From this historical overview, it emerges that the instrument of mobilization has constituted a constant way of conducting sanitation work for the Beijing government, the legacy of which also seems to re-emerge in the policies aimed to containing the Covid-19 pandemic.
