Abstract
The article aims to stress the need and opportunities for valorizing immigrant employees’ human capital in work organizations, according to the central tenets of diversity management. First, it points to how – until very recently – scant attention has been paid to migrants as a target group of diversity initiatives in the workplace, and interprets the post-2014 refugee crisis as an important passage point for an emerging new awareness in this regard. Then, the article dwells on the key findings of a European research on diversity management practices addressed to immigrant workers. Besides suggesting several advantages of such practices, as well as some criticalities impacting on them, this study also provides some of the insights underlying the “agenda for action” that is subsequently outlined. The article concludes by arguing that in this field the search for competitive value should be integrated with constant attention to the moral dimension, particularly in the terms proposed by the social doctrine of the Church.
