The state of criminal justice is a mirror of the moral health of a society. When his ways and fields of intervention exceed certain levels, we are faced with a cultural, not just legal, pathology, which lies in such 'surplus' of sanctions blatantly exhibited, but often lacking any effectiveness (especially where they should have more): symptom of the regression to a primitive condition, 'sacrificial', anxious to find scapegoats before understanding problems and really willing to solve them. This is also, in a sense, a kind of corruption affecting legal and social rules, which is at the same time the cause and effect of public and private corruptions as crimes, addressed in Italy by recent law reforms, but which continue to be a heavy burden for the country and especially its young people. However, it is not from the umpteenth legislative reform that we can expect a "healing" from such a tangle of corruption. Above all, it is necessary to take care of legal and non-juridical norms: a task for everyone, because everyone - individual or institution - should be endowed of at least some of that 'nobility of spirit' necessary to turn his gaze back to the light of knowledge, namely to that right and just knowledge stemming from the ability to really listen to the stories of people and communities and to remove the diabolical divisive temptation of violence and deception.
