Abstract
The essay recognizes in the Epistole entomologiche the work by which Gozzano keeps the promise of Pioggia d’agosto and sings with «altra voce», overcoming the static patterns of the antithesis typical of the two previous collections. The analysis of the poem’s structure and of the most recurring rhetorical figures in the single texts brings out the fundamental role of correctio on a macroscopic level: these dynamic and progressive figure allows to detect in the Monografie delle varie specie an ascending path that, perhaps unconsciously retracing the steps of the Hegelian dialectic, shows how Nature maintains its equilibrium and grows on the basis of conciliation of opposites. The considerations about dispositio are confirmed by inventio: indeed, the quotations from the New Testament and from the Dante’s Purgatorio in the proemial epistle outline uphill itineraries, nourished by the desire for living water and truth. The dimension of immanence, that characterizes the previous production of Gozzano, is so called into question and these quotations can offer a key to read the six monographs as the answer to the question of the «asceta d’oggi».
