Abstract
The essay offers a profile of three models of encounter between theatre and dramaturgy in the twentieth Century: the first, the heroic model in the sacred theatre in the time of war, with the example of "L'Annonce faite à Marie" by Paul Claudel, the second, the model of torment, with the voice of alarm and "scandal" used by Giovanni Testori, above all in his "Tre Lai", and the third, the model of the Bible as a "subtext" of "re-ligious" theatre so apparently distant in a secularised culture with the example of "Waiting for Godot" and "Nacht und Traume" by Samuel Beckett. However, the theatre knows other effective methods of interpretation, and of communicating the vitality of the Bible in the contexts of catechesis, mission, in the contexts of comparison and openness towards other cultures. The essay concludes with a brief review of these possible ways.
