Abstract
Deciphering the term of inclusion, a reflection on Italy’s history of special education in the last two centuries is presented. Given several perspectives on the debate on integration having come up by the late 1970s, it can be argued whether
modern “inclusion” is a new point of view or rather is a new concept that retains old roots but has lost others.
