Abstract
Football industry in Italy has recently grown at a pace that was never experienced before, boosted by the entrance of pay-tvs in the business. Nevertheless, in the latest years, Italian football has sinked into a deep financial crisis which have caused bankruptcy for some clubs and strong downsizing for others.
At the end of the 2002/03 football season, the aggregate net loss for Serie A was larger than 400 million euro, more than one third of total turnover.
In the present article we analyse the figures of Italian football, discuss the reasons of the financial crisis and propose some remedies.
