Abstract
On the basis of the lesson of Emanuele Tesauro’s «Cannocchiale aristotelico», his text of «Alcesti o sia l’amor sincero» a kind of summa of Tesauro’s theoretical, poetic, and laudatory production, is reread through its most significant metaphors, not only paying attention to the framework of the celebratory project for the Savoy court, but also with the aim of shedding light on the intention of both this very work and its author, set on asserting the ability of language to talk about being; that is, an ability which the important model of Euripides problematically calls into question. In dialogue with Euripides, the ingenious musicality of Tesauro’s poetry takes on the task of producing such a representation of becoming that, while leaving the viewers in amazement, pushes the knowledge of reality further beyond the phenomenal appearances.
