Abstract
The paper discusses under which conditions Italian SMEs make use of local networks of suppliers or look for international suppliers. The paper analyzes main changes that have affected purchasing strategies of misize companies of the mechanical industry and make some conclusions in terms of companies' combining local and international sourcing.
