N2 - Our work is focused on active ageing and intergenerational exchanges at the level of values and personal orientations, as well as relational networks. Analyses are based on the data gathered through a national survey (N=900, 65-74 years; http://anzianiinrete.wordpress.com).
Following literature review and meta-analysis of SHARE data (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe), we measured structural and cultural factors that favour or hinder the likelihood to put in place forms of intergenerational exchange on the side of the young elders. We also identified elements of ambivalence interfering with active ageing, which is defined as the propensity to be engaged in activities for oneself or for the others in later life.
Data analysis is performed through synthetic indexes, a cluster analysis, social network analysis, as well as logistic regression (Maximum Likelihood Estimation method).
The analyses confirm the existence of a relationship between the mag-nitude of the social network and the propensity to exchange with other generations. They also confirm the importance of value orientations and experience. In conclusion, believing in the importance of genera-tions and drawing a positive balance in one’s experience as a parent are strictly related with the capability to support the youngest and the oldest (intergenerational solidarity).
