Abstract
Drawing from an ethnographic study on open source programmers and evangelists performed in 2007 in Beijing, the paper highlights the problematic encounter between the Chinese context and the Free and Open Source Software model. Interviews show that the Chinese software industry, work culture and communication patterns each feature problems for FOSS.
