Abstract
The article offers a critical reassessment of skills in comparison to the more commonly used term competencies, highlighting, for instance, the inadequacy of the Italian translation of “European Year of Skills”. By analyzing skills as intelligent action patterns - characterized by pervasiveness, self-regulation, transferability, and trans-contextuality - the article affirms their epistemological and pedagogical value, promoting them from mere “minor” components of competencies to elements of intrinsic significance in educational and training contexts.
