Abstract
Francis of Assisi's idea of minority and precariousness imposed on the friars a dynamic conception of space and interpersonal relationships. Even the foundation of actual convents had produced places very different from those typical of Benedictine monasticism. The monastery, understood as a magnet that was supposed to attract monks to ensure their path to personal perfection through separation and escape from the world, was replaced by convents, which were by definition places of encounter, dynamic centres driving missionary activity carried out in the name of precariousness. This was the completely unique and innovative form taken by missionary activity carried out in the name of precariousness. This was the completely unique and innovative form taken by the world observed upside down by Francis and his friars.
