Il misantropo a caso maritato, o sia L'orgoglio punito

The volume is part of the Pregoldoniana Library, as part of the international ARPREGO project. The author, an official of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, is a friend of Goldoni and "La locandiera" is dedicated to him. In the text of "Il misantropo a caso maritato" we recognize the traces of the formative value that Rucellai attributes to comedy: it educates the people to morality understood as knowledge of the laws and exercise of freedom. For this and for the representation of two different events in which two female characters become aware of their freedom, the work can be inserted in the texts with which Goldoni was confronted in the course of its production.
