Abstract
Within the yearly Italian Report on Migrations (2015 edition) realized by the ISMU Foundation – the main Italian scientific institution on migrations and interethnic cohabitation – this chapter focuses the attention on migrants’ insertion in the Italian labor market. After a synthesis of major trends before and after the beginning of the economic crises, it analysis the most recent data concerning migrants’ labor forces, employment and unemployment. A particular attention is devoted to the tendency to attract mainly low qualified migrants, which goes hand in hand with vast processes of deskilling of high educated migrants. Finally, the essay presents some results and suggestions emerged from the international project DIVERSE, aimed at enhancing migrants’ human capital for the economic and social development of European (and Italian) development.
