Abstract
Within the yearly Italian Report on Migrations (2005’s edition) realised by the ISMU Foundation – the main Italian scientific institution on migrations and interethnic cohabitation – this chapter focuses the attention on migrants’ insertion in the Italian labour market. After providing a general picture of major European and Italian trends about economic migrations and their regulation, it takes into consideration the characterising features of migrant labour demand, through the analysis of the estimated hirings of migrant workers. Then it focuses the attention on the evolution of ethnic specialisations and on strategies of passage to independent work. Finally, it develops some concluding remarks and suggestions on labour migrations management.
