Abstract
Within the yearly Italian Report on Migrations (2014 edition) realised by the ISMU Foundation – the main Italian scientific institution on migrations and interethnic cohabitation – this chapter focuses the attention on migrants’ insertion in the Italian labour market, describing it evolution during the last 20 years. After describing the extraordinary growth of both migrant labour force and migrant employment, it remarks the persistence of some trends, such as migrants' concentration in given niches of the labour market and a widespread process od deskilling of educated migrants. A specific focus is devoted to the management of labour migrations, defined an emblematic example of worst practice. Finally, it develops some considerations about the past, the present and the future governance of economic migration in Italy. The contribution is also available in the English version (see: “Work”, Twenty years of migrations in Italy: 1994-2014 Migrations)
