Abstract
This booklet contains the proceedings of the IX edition of the Summer School, held in Santa Maria di Leuca (LE) from 23 to 26 July 2018, and focuses attention on migrants as economic actors, analyzing the reality of immigrant work in Italy and in Europe, in its most problematic aspects and in the most virtuous ones. Alongside the unquestionable challenges that the various components of contemporary migration pose to European labor markets, forcing them to deal with the problems of the labor inclusion of often vulnerable subjects, the School wanted to investigate the prospects of an authentic enhancement of immigration, capable of go beyond the "myopia" of current models of integration and development. Also because of its significant demographic weight - destined to grow further in the coming years - the population with a migration background represents a decisive stake for the competitiveness of European economies and the sustainability of their accumulation regimes and their welfare systems. As well as an extraordinary resource for the same communities of origin of migrants, according to a perspective - evoked by the idea of co-development - which must still be strongly strengthened.
