Abstract
A translation into Modern Italian is proposed of Johann Stabius' texts which appear in Dürer's "Ehrenpforte Maximilian I." The texts translated are Stabius' "Clavis" (i.e. a general explanation of the "Ehrenpforte"), the strophes describing the meaning of the pictures which represent episodes in Maximilian's life and, finally, the genealogical tree of the Emperor. The language of the original is the south-eastern 15th-century German written variety called "Gemeines Deutsch". A detailed description of the most relevant linguistic features of the original text is then proposed, with particular attention to orthography.
