Abstract
This paper analyses Euboea's role from the IInd Macedonian to the Achaean war. Chalcis always holds its supremacy over the other towns: the regular appearance of Chalcidians as Euboean representatives in the Amphictyony from 178/7 to 134 or 130 is the most persuasive evidence of this permanence, while a different and opposite role of Eretria is not attested.
