Abstract
This essay provides both a retrospective analysis and an outlook on the future of nonmarital relationships. The Author explores the salient moments that marked the recognition of unmarried couples on a legal level, focusing on their structure and regulation; then, she reflects on the new perspectives for de facto partners. Every reconstructive hypothesis will try to combine the solidarity principle with the respect of system coherence.
