Abstract
The paper describes the lunches and dinners that the city of Milan organised in honour of sovereigns from the Napoleonic era to the Restoration. The ceremonial of such events regulated many aspects, not only gastronomic and, among many, not secondary were the mise en place, lighting, music and dance, which transformed the sovereign's banquet into a true artistic moment.
